Beauty and the Beast and Schoolhouse Rock

Off Broadway Children's Theatre (OBCT) is excited to announce the production of TWO amazing shows for spring 2010!

BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, JR.
This is Disney's musical version of the beloved classic tale. The show centers around a beast who keeps a beautiful young woman named Belle in a castle. The beast must win her love or he will remain a beast forever. Popular songs include "Be Our Guest," and the title hit, "Beauty and the Beast."

SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK, LIVE!
The Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning TV series that taught history, grammar, math, science and politics is brought to life in this energetic and tuneful production. This version features the popular "Conjunction Junction," "Interjections," and "Elbow Room" among many other memorable numbers. With little dialogue and lots of tunes, it's the perfect show for a lively cast of dancers and singers!

Stage veterans and newcomers alike are encourage to audition. Rehearsals and show schedules will not conflict, so you may be considered for both shows if you wish.

This season, you will be able to indicate on the audition sheet whether you wish to audition for Beauty and the Beast - Schoolhouse Rock - or both. You can also indicate the role you would like to be considered for. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding the shows or the audition process.

NEW CLASS - BOYS' TECHNIQUE

Beginning Jan 4th, Off Broadway Dance will be offering a Boys' Technique class on Saturday mornings from 11:00 - 12:00. Taught by our own Ms. Annie Power, the class will focus on turns, leaps and jumps specific to boys' needs, and is open to ages 12 - 18. Space is limited - Click here to register.

COLLEEN GREEN TO TEACH MUSICAL THEATRE CLASSES

Beginning in January, Off Broadway Children's Theatre Director, Colleen Green, will be the new teacher for our Musical Theatre classes on Monday nights. Our previous instructor, the newly-married Miss Lora, will dedicate her time to her college student teaching requirements but will return to Off Broadway this summer to teach theatre camps. Best wishes Miss Lora!

Colleen will be teaching the Monday night Junior Musical Theatre, Pre-teen Musical Theatre, and Advanced Musical Theatre classes.

Colleen received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from SUNY Fredonia. For the past seven years Colleen served as the Executive Artistic Director of the Historic Holly Theatre in Dahlonega; she was the creator of the Holly Children's Theatre program and the Artistic Director of the Holly Theatre Company.

Most recently, Colleen has been the director of our wonderful Children's Theatre program. We are excited to offer our students another opportunity to learn under the instruction of Miss Colleen.

KAT IS BACK!

Kat is back and she would love to teach a class or two on Saturday afternoons. It might be contemporary, lyrical, modern or Broadway jazz. She needs 5 students to make up a class and they must be between the ages of 13-18. If interested, contact Shannon at offbroadway@msn.com.

MOMMY AND ME

Come join a weekly class where parents and children sing, dance, shake eggs, beat the drums, call and respond, clap, tap, laugh skip, jump, pretend, learn and grow! For ages newborn through 4 years of age, the Mommy and Me program is based on developmental goals and carefully selected music. Taught by Jen McQueen, each class is 45 minutes long and a session runs approximately 10 - 12 weeks.

RHYTHM TAP
Hey Advanced Tappers!! We are excited to offer a new Rhythm Tap class beginning February 1st. This is a hard core tap technique class taught by our newest instructor, Jen MacQueen.

Jen performs, choreographs, and teaches all over the United States. Taught by many of the great masters, she has workshopped new tap pieces for, shared the bill with, and performed alongside many well-known tappers such as Savion Glover, Brenda Bufalino, Gregory Hines, and Harold Nicholas (of the Nicholas Brothers)... plus many others.

Jen now shares her skills and her love of tap with the students at Off Broadway Dance Theatre. Her Rhythm Tap class will be held on Thursdays from 7 pm - 8 pm.

ADVANCED BROADWAY JAZZ
We also are excited to offer an Advanced Broadway Jazz class on Thursdays from 8 pm-9 pm. This is only for students ages 13 and up who have had at least 3 years of previous training in Jazz. This class will focus on choreographers' specific styles versus jazz technique. Class will begin on February 1st.

We've got some very exciting plans for performers of all ages!

This summer, Off Broadway's Summer Stock Camp will encompass a Salute to Broadway, featuring popular songs from shows like "Wicked," "Rent," "Shrek," "Mamma Mia," "Bye Bye Birdie," "Hair," "Rock of Ages," and more!  Every camper will have the chance to play the lead and showcase their talents on the Off Broadway stage. 

Don't stop believin' as Off Broadway brings you Show Choir Camp. Inspired by the popular TV series, "Glee," you'll be sure to get your "mash-up" on with this exciting camp full of big song and dance numbers! Details coming soon.
