Schedule 2014-2015

 

Preschoolers Dance (Ages 2-4)

 Tutus and Taps – Tuesdays 10am-11am

We will introduce your dancer to expression through movement, as we begin proper dance vocabulary and classically-based technique through repetition and fun dance-based activities. Each class will include 30 minutes of ballet followed by 20 minutes of tap 

Ballet/Tap – Tuesdays 4pm-5pm

We will introduce your dancer to expression through movement, as we begin proper dance vocabulary and classically-based technique through repetition and fun dance-based activities. Each class will include 30 minutes of ballet followed by 20 minutes of tap 

Ballet/Tap – Friday 10am-11am

We will introduce your dancer to expression through movement, as we begin proper dance vocabulary and classically-based technique through repetition and fun dance-based activities. Each class will include 30 minutes of ballet followed by 20 minutes of tap 

Creative Movement (ages 2-3) Saturday 9am-10am

We will introduce your child to expression through movement.  We will concentrate on developing fine motor skills, rhythm and balance, stimulating their imagination, and following instructions.  Your child will gradually learn expected behavior for dance class in a nurturing environment

Ballet/Tap – Saturday 10am-11am

Elementary Dance (Ages 5-8)

Ballet Level 1 and Level 2 (Ages 6-8) - Thursday 4pm-5pm

Dancers will learn classical ballet technique according to the Vaganova method in the traditional class format.  Focuses will include proper alignment, turn-out, increasing flexibility, developing a proper pointe, muscle control, positions of feet and arms,balance, ballet vocabulary and French terminology.

Junior Broadway Jazz (Ages 5-8) - Tuesdays 4pm-5pm

Elementary Drama (Ages 5-8)

Elementary Acting – Monday 5pm-6pm Monologues Can Be Fun

It's time to conquer the scary monster of theater: Monologues! We'll learn about what makes a good monologue and how to pick the best one for you! We'll work on memorization, projection, enunciation and some character development. 

Benchmarks:

  • Learn to memorize a script
  • Introduce and execute dramatic auditions
  • Understand and integrate stage directions in blocking scenes
  • Introduce concepts of physicality, diction, vocal quality and facial expressions in creating a characterization
  • Present and build on teamwork through various exercises & theater games
  • Stretch imagination & creativity through theater games
  • Introduce concept of stage business and how to integrate into a performance

Junior Musical Theatre - Tuesday 5pm-6pm Fairytale Fun

Fight villains, dance at the ball, and defeat the wicked witch in this class designed to teach theater skills and terms through fairy tales. Students will read and act out familiar stories as well as sing and dance to favorite Disney songs. *This class is designed for beginning theater students in the 4 to 8 age range. It is recommended for students just starting out with OBD as well as those with previous experience.

Junior Musical Theatre - Thursdays 5pm-6pm King of the Jungle

Come sing and dance along to your favorite tunes from Disney's THE LION KING! Build upon the fundamentals of theater and stretch your abilities through songs like "Just Can't Wait to be King," "Hakuna Matata," and the "Circle of Life." Students will also have the opportunity to learn about the creative process leading up to a performance and will take part in making their costumes/props. The beat of the drums is starting and you don't want to miss out!

Benchmarks:

  • Demonstrate a knowledge of basic theater terms
  • Follow basic stage directions
  • Perform simple choreography
  • Recite memorized lines

 Preteen/Teen Drama (Ages 9-17)

Middle School/Teen Acting – Monday 6pm-7pm

Do you want to challenge your acting skills with a straight play? Do you want a challenging course, filled with character development, advanced acting methods, comedic timing and production management? Then this class is for you! This  class will dive into a script, hold rehearsals and block an entire show to be presented for a full audience! 


Preteen/Teen Musical Theatre – Thursdays 6pm-7pm Musical In Minutes

Featuring songs, scenes and choreography from Oklahoma, Chorus Line and Les Miserables. “Musical in a Minute” covers the disciplines of singing, dancing and acting. Focusing on songs and scenes from three dynamic genres and studying the hallmark styles of “book musicals” (Oklahoma!) “juke-box musicals” (A Chorus Line) and “mega-musicals” (Les Mis) you will broaden and hone your skills as you perform songs and scenes from some of the best musicals ever written!


Improv – Saturdays 12pm-1:30pm - Off the Top Of Your Head

What would actors do without a script? They would improvise. This class covers the basics of improvisation: how to build a scene, create distinct characters, develop conflict, and keep the plot moving–all within seconds. Improvisation techniques will be taught through active games and exercises. Be prepared to think fast and work hard. *This class is recommended for students with no improvisation experience as well as for those who have completed one session of improv classes in the past.

Preteen/Teen Dance (Ages 9-17)

Teen Contemporary – Monday 7pm-8pm

Contemporary will introduce dancers to the Modern Dance Style, which focuses on the serious expression of inner emotions, using a free-flowing, interpretive style. It will also combine this with jazz and ballet components along with partnering skills.

Teen Ballet – Monday 8pm-9pm

Dancers will learn classical ballet technique according to the Vaganova method in the traditional class format.  Focuses will includeproper alignment, turn out, increasing flexibility, developing a proper pointe, muscle control, positions of feet and arms, balance, ballet vocabulary and French terminology. 

Preteen Broadway Jazz – Wednesday 6pm-7pm

This class is designed to give all levels of skills the opportunity to participate in a musical number from a popular Broadway production. The focus will be on basic jazz technique mixed with cuing, entrance and exiting a stage and many other components of a musical number.

Preteen Ballet – Tuesday 5pm-6pm

Dancers will learn classical ballet technique according to the Vaganova method in the traditional class format.  Focuses will include proper alignment, turn out, increasing flexibility, developing a proper pointe, muscle control, positions of feet and arms, balance, ballet vocabulary and French terminology. 

Sr Company – Tuesday 6pm-8pm and Thursday 6pm-8pm
