"The OBD Kids Musical Theatre Troupe has been an exciting,
enriching
experience for my 9-year-old son. His confidence and on-stage
skills have
grown tremendously, as has his appreciation for musical theater.
Shannon
and Chris Mayer are adept at extracting the very best out of each
student
and challenging them to new levels, while keeping the experience
enjoyable
and rewarding. Their professional skills and passion for the arts
makes the
Mayers and the OBD Kids a winning team!"

AUDITION PROCESS
The following information has been provided to better prepare you, our performers and families, for your 1st or 101st audition at OBD. Please familiarize yourself with what expect at auditions and while participating in a OBD show. We hope this information will answer questions concerning the audition process, rehearsal schedule and performance.
Please plan on the audition process taking up to 2 or 3 hours, depending on how many people have arrived ahead of you in line. For each audition, auditionees and their families are put into groups of 10. You will attend the following meetings and registration process, followed by the actual audition with these same 10 people.
Step One: Informational Meeting – Mandatory for all participants/families
When you arrive at OBD, you will attend a mandatory informational meeting for performers and their parents/guardians. Our goal is that every family will begin the process within 30 minutes of arriving at OBD. During the meeting, veteran parents will talk about OBD, its history and mission, go over the audition process and answer any questions you may have. All meeting participants will also receive an audition packet, conflict calendar, general rehearsal schedule, and OBD Policies form at that time. (Or we encourage you toread and print out our audition packet onlineor pick up one prior to the audition day).
Please note! $250 fee is only paid if you are indeed cast as OBD Kid. You do not pay the $250 fee to audition.
If you don’t fill these out before you arrive, you'll be asked to complete the audition packet, conflict calendar and OBD Policies form following the Informational Meeting.
Step Two: Review of Conflicts Calendar
Next, you will review your completed conflict calendar with a production representative. Conflicts will not be accepted the last 10 days of rehearsal or during performances. If you have too many conflicts on your calendar,
you may not be eligible for lead roles, or it may be recommended that you not audition. Click here to download our Conflicts document (.pdf file, 46k).
Step Three: Registration
Once your conflict calendar has been signed, you will move to the registration station. There, you will be assigned an audition number, your forms and tuition fees will be collected. To help the artistic staff identify you, a volunteer will take your photo and attach your photo to your forms.
Step Four: Audition
Auditionees will be brought into the studio 10 at time. Each group will be taught a short dance routine. You will be asked to perform the dance combination with others from your group. Next each individual performers will be asked to sing their prepared song and read a line from the show which you will be given with your
registration materials. Immediately after your group has completed its audition, some people may be asked to come back later in the week for a call back for specific roles. Those not needed at callbacks are considered “cast” and will be receive information about your first rehearsal. The show’s director will let everyone in the group know when the cast list is scheduled to be posted. If you have been asked to return for callbacks and have a conflict at that time, please let the director(s) know immediately. If you have not been asked to attend call backs, congratulations! Don’t feel bad that you haven’t been asked back, it just means we’ve seen what we need to see to cast you in the show.
